Question for the audience…

Posted in Book of Mormon, Uncategorized at 6:32 pm by Jess Ward

OK, so I know I talk a lot (online and in real life–I even talk in my sleep), but I’m trying to make this thing more interactive. I want to hear your thoughts.

Has anyone had a scripture that has changed their life or made them think differently? (This can be either from the Bible or the Book of Mormon.)

And (to sweeten the deal) I’ll buy M&Ms for anyone who comments… when I get home. Go ahead. Comment away. I’m listening.

Second Witness

When your dad is a lawyer, you learn a thing or two about witnesses. In a court of law, witnesses testify of things they know to be true. They give the jury another perspective. They say what really happened. And more witnesses mean more truth.

Conveniently, that’s the pattern established by the Savior in the Bible as well: “In the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established” (Matthew 18:16). For centuries, we have had the Bible which witnesses of Christ. It tells of His miracles, His ministry, and the things we need to do to live with God again (like have faith and be baptized). The Bible is the word of God–but it is only one witness. That’s why in the 1820s God revealed another book of scripture, the Book of Mormon. This book, like the Bible, tells of an ancient people who believed in Christ. They lived here on the American continent, and they wrote down their beliefs and prophecies about the Savior. The climax of the Book of Mormon is that He came and visited them after He had completed His ministry in Jerusalem.

The Book of Mormon works with the Bible to establish truth–that Christ is our Savior, that He lived and died for us, and that we can live with Him again. In a world that is always doubting Jesus Christ and putting His teachings on trial, the Book of Mormon is able to stand with the Bible and tell us He loves us and He has a plan.

Everyday I go out and tell people to put the Book of Mormon to the test–to read it and pray about it and ask God if He revealed more scripture. And I promise them with complete confidence that they will get an answer because I have received an answer–a feeling of peace and certainty that’s almost hard to describe. It is true, and you can know it too.

To watch a modern-day apostles testimony of the Book of Mormon, watch this video. (Or you can just watch it because I’m THRILLED I finally figured out how to do this!)
